Hockey Takes Flight: Air Force x NHL Stadium Series

Role

As Director of Digital, I led the strategy and execution of all content surrounding two historic events at the Air Force Academy. I oversaw every phase of the project, including planning, creative direction, content production, and real-time publishing. My role was to ensure both the NHL Stadium Series and Faceoff at Falcon Stadium were showcased on a national stage while delivering compelling content for Air Force Athletics’ social media channels, particularly the Falcons, football, and hockey accounts.

Challenge

When the NHL announced Falcon Stadium as a Stadium Series host site, it presented a unique opportunity for Air Force to appear in front of millions of hockey fans and national media outlets. Two days later, the Air Force hockey team played its first-ever outdoor game against Colorado College. The challenge was to manage content strategy and execution for two high-profile events in a short timeframe, capturing the scale, excitement, and brand identity while maximizing visibility across Air Force Athletics’ digital channels.

Actions

  • Developed a comprehensive content strategy covering both the NHL Stadium Series and Faceoff at Falcon Stadium

  • Captured behind-the-scenes content of stadium transformation, ice installation, and NHL team practices

  • Produced a feature on Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog’s day as a cadet

  • Directed creative campaigns including graphics, videos, and a photoshoot unveiling Air Force Hockey’s new uniforms, which I photographed myself

  • Managed real-time publishing and cross-channel storytelling to maintain cohesive messaging

  • Leveraged both events to produce and share content across Air Force Falcons, football, and hockey accounts

Results

  • Generated over 3.3 million impressions, 280,000 engagements, and 300,000 video views across Air Force brand and athletics accounts

  • Content shared by the NHL, Colorado Avalanche, and national media outlets, expanding reach far beyond typical audiences

  • Increased engagement and visibility across Air Force Falcons, football, and hockey channels by leveraging both events

  • Faceoff at Falcon Stadium set a new attendance record for the hockey program with over 7,000 fans

Impact

Through strategic planning and high-quality execution, Air Force Athletics transformed two historic events into defining moments for the brand. The coverage elevated Falcon Stadium and Air Force Hockey on a national stage while providing enduring content for multiple programs. The campaign demonstrated how intentional content strategy can maximize exposure, drive fan engagement, and amplify institutional pride.
